If you love Italian food, you MUST try Buca di Beppo on Mopac about one block north of Research Blvd. But this is no place to go alone. Take your friends, take your family. Actually, take your friends AND your family. You'll find the pricing to be very reasonable for a group.
Buca di Beppo serves up dinner, family style. When we were kids, mom would prepare large meals for the whole family. We would sit around a large table where the food was served in large bowls or even still in the pots and pans. There would be one serving spoon for each bowl and everybody would dig in. Notice the word "Large" being used a lot here? That's exactly what you can look forward to at Buca di Beppo. Family style dining, meant to be shared.
We haven't had Italian food like this anywhere else around here. In fact, if you want to have this brand of Italian dining elsewhere, a good place to look would be Italy. Buca di Beppo makes it a point to recreate the tastes of all of those small restaurants from villages across Italy. North or south, it really doesn't matter. They're so committed to bringing you the authentic cuisine, that they send their people to Italy to make sure they haven't forgotten what it's all about. And what a delight that they do, the result is phenomenal food.
Even with taking a large group, you will want to eat there a few times in order to taste multiple entrees on their menu. You'll start off thinking that you know all about a dish like Chicken Parmigiana, but remember, this meal is made different in parts of Italy. They use golden brown breaded chicken breasts, sautéed until crisp and then baked with thinly sliced prosciutto, bruschetta and provolone cheese. Then served on a bed of delicious homemade marinara sauce. Small differences, but so much better than average.
We've been told several times to go there but procrastinated, thinking it was too hot outside. (We didn't want a heavy meal.) In reality, there's lots to choose from that is light and delicious. Our favorite dish was the "Chicken Saltimbocca" juicy sautéed chicken breasts, layered with fresh sage and prosciutto, and topped with artichoke hearts, capers and a delicate lemon butter sauce. We're confident you will LOVE this (robust with flavor) plate as well.
There's so much we could say about the rest of their menu, but we'll leave that to your own discovery. Buca di Beppo's philosophy is that your dining experience should be one of the Italian traditions of food, friendship and hospitality. And what a great atmosphere for that. The restaurant is filled with all kinds of crazy decor and tables to seat 4 or tables to seat very large groups.
So grab the group, arrive hungry and enjoy. You'll be talking about it for days after you do.
