![]() website and menu Here's a healthy alternative to traditional dining in Austin... Beets Living Foods Cafe. This is an upscale restaurant on West 5th Street that specializes in raw foods. Restaurant owner and chef Sylvia Heisey started eating raw foods about five years ago for a host of benefits that include weight control, energy and cleansing, as well as pain and allergy relief. Her personal success with this contributed to the creation of this restaurant and her belief that changing even 50% of your diet can have great benefits.Everybody knows that fruit and vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet. Sylvia's concept is to make them a large part of your diet. Every dish you'll find at Beets made with organic and raw foods, and the produce is even washed in their ionized water. This is a vegetarian and vegan friendly menu with beautifully presented dishes that make eating raw foods work for everybody. Take for instance their Pizza Rustica, this is a wheat free pizza with a sprouted crust with seasoned almond nut cheese, mushrooms, onions, sweet peppers, olives and fresh basil. It's served with a petite Caesar salad and is delicious. Being meat lovers, we were a little skeptical as to whether this type of food would work for us... but this dish was certainly up to par. (Good news for those who are eating gluten free) One of our favorites here is the Asian Style Noodle Salad. We love the sweet and spicy dressing. Never before have we enjoyed raw foods so much. This salad is made with broccoli, kelp noodles, sea veggies, napa cabbage, daikon radish, carrots, red pepper, scallion, cilantro and sesame seeds. (you gotta try this)Beets Living Foods Cafe also has smoothies, veggie drinks and other healthy beverages along with soups, salads and their decadent desserts. They make their own ice cream, which of course doesn't include any dairy, soy or refined sugars. If we didn't tell you what it was, you probably wouldn't have known the difference. This place has already begun getting popular, and we believe that this was just the right place and time for them to open. Try it for yourself.Beets Living Foods Cafe 1611 W 5th St Austin, TX (512) 477-2338 Hours: Mon-Wed 8a to 8p Thurs & Fri 8a to 9p Sat 10a to 9p |
