Austin is filled with unusual little eateries, and Lakeway is quickly following in the footsteps. In the heart of Lakeway at the corner of 620 and Lohman's Crossing is a brand new shopping center with a handful of new restaurants. One of which is dishing out breakfast pastries, locally roasted gourmet coffees and sandwiches that are different from what the chains are serving.|

ate.cafe is the place and it was founded by Chef Jessica Buonocore and her husband Rodolfo. Both have extensive backgrounds with food, and just a couple of years ago created a company called ate foods. An interesting concept, they started out by creating three, three course meals for families on the go, at a very reasonable price. Then they deliver these meals once a week to homes all over Austin, no matter where in Austin you live. And no extra delivery charge.
Jessica and Rodolfo decided to move into a larger kitchen when the idea hit them to go ahead and offer their craft on a daily basis. From this ate.cafe was born. The cafe is quickly growing in popularity around Lakeway, and it's easy to see why. People love to come in for the locally roasted, organic fair trade coffee with a shot of sparkling water and fresh home made pastries like croissants, cakes, muffins, scones, cookies and other treats.
Aside from the bakery side of ate.cafe are the sandwiches and salads that have a familiar tone, but some are given a bit of a twist. For instance this grilled cheese sandwich. Sounds simple enough, you may think you've had this before. Chances are, you haven't had this one. But it's made with gruyere cheese, marinated onion and a whole grain mustard. More flavor coming from this twist on an old school recipe than most would be used to. The bread is grilled panini style, then plated with a little spring mix.
